
iPhone magazines?
August 1, 2007The folks at Texterity, Inc. have prepared a video demo of their new iPhone magazines. In the demo they use a copy of Popular Science magazine delivered and viewed via the iPhone. Here is the link for you to judge for yourself whether this new method of delivery of a printed product is worthy of your fingers touching the screen. I would love to hear your feed back.

Here is my feedback. How about just designing content specifically for the iPhone that takes advantage of the functionality of the phone instead of force feeding a magazine into the thing.

I agree with Nord… this solution “works,” but not does nothing to enhance the reading experience… I tried it out on my iPhone… like everything on the iPhone, it’s pretty, but it’s not very practical.
Texterity has a habit of trying “the next best thing” with digital magazine delivery. They tried with RSS and now are “force feeding” it into an iPhone. The beauty of a magazine is that you can pick it up where you want and read it. If you drop it, you pick it up and keep reading. I commend Texterity for its innovations, but for a mass market, digital editions in general and these bells and whistles have little chance.
